It’s generally acknowledged that moving to a new house can be pretty stressful, so you obviously want to make the packing part as stress free and easy as possible. This is where a bit of planning comes in handy.
When your shipping container is delivered it will be placed on as flat a spot as possible, and as close to the house as possible, to reduce lifting distances. The key thing to do next is figure out how to pack it with minimum effort. At Ipswich Container Solutions we lease containers that are up to 20 feet in length, that’s 38 cubic metres of space to fill. When you consider the fact that shipping containers may be tilted somewhat during transit, you can see the importance of packing items securely and safely. We suggest you:
- Draw up a basic packing plan of the container in which large and heavy items of furniture are spaced out so that the weight within the container will be relatively evenly distributed.
- Make a list of items that you rarely use and pack them first, as they can safely go at the back of the container.
- Label furniture and boxes with container position details so relevant household members know how to pack each item within the container.
- Wrap pillows, blankets and linen in clear, thin plastic, so you can use these soft items to cushion and buffer other items, while still keeping them clean.
